Safiri Salama is Kenya's first End-of-Life services platform, and it is changing the way people think about deathcare. It rolled out in August 2022 and focuses on providing a simple way to announce a death, plan a funeral, grieve, celebrate, and remember a life in a distant but not isolated manner. This website offers 3 main digital products: online death notices, online memorials, and the Redbook (a directory that connects service providers in the funeral industry with grieving families).

Project Summary

Safiri Salama is Kenya’s first End-of-Life services provider platform, changing people’s perception of deathcare. The client trusted us with the careful research, design, development, and testing of the web-based platform to launch a reliable product into the real world. Our team worked on this project in different phases to compliment the client’s unique idea and their discovery of the transforming target market. Since it was supposed to be a web-based platform, we suggested leveraging the benefits of PHP and CodeIgniter. The goal was to offer smooth performance, interactivity, and compatibility across various devices (Windows, MAC, Android, and iOS). We came up with enhanced UI/UX components and introduced a blog section for spreading awareness among the client’s target audience. This portal now allows users to use layouts and post death notices, add pictures to the Memorial gallery and more. Later, for users looking for subscriptions, we also implemented a payment gateway using MPesa. After careful testing, the platform rolled out in August 2022 and continues to help people deal with the demise of their loved ones exactly as our client desired.

  • The client wanted an interactive, cross-platform compatible website that allows the users to post up-to-date information on the noticeboard regarding funeral arrangements, and showcase photos and videos in the gallery. There has to be a well-designed layout for the same.
  • The memorial page should help family members and future generations remember and learn about their ancestors through pictures, videos, tributes, and stories shared by those who knew and loved them.
  • Users should be able to easily navigate and access all services offered by the client via this website in a smooth and sophisticated manner.
  • This platform should allow them to book services such as Burial, Catering, Coffin Perfume, Coffin Dealer, Death Certificate, Flowers/Wreaths, Funeral Direction, and so on.
  • Service providers should have their own section where they can post information about their services and people can easily contact them to get things done.
  • The platform must be safe, secure, and committed to preserving all the content for future generations to come.
  • We proposed solutions for various aspects of this platform where we worked to improve its UI/UX components.
  • This solution would address some of the client's major concerns, including integration, custom design, user interface (UI), security, cross-platform availability, and support.
  • We suggested adding a blog module to the portal so that people could learn more about Safiri Salama.
  • We insisted on the Memorial being web-based. As a result, users can access it instantly from anywhere in the world. They come back at any time, read, and share memories.
  • We created a user-friendly website with an interactive user interface.
  • It was made sure that all web pages are screen-friendly and easy to access from any location.
  • The platform has been improved so that users can access and post information more easily. Because the detail form is lengthy, it was especially important that they have the necessary tools to fill out the details in a hassle-free way.
  • This platform works flawlessly across all browsers.
  • In terms of optimization, we did several tasks of Image, page and query optimization into this platform as a part of enhancement. It also has a good Page Score in GtMatrix and Google PageSpeed Insights.
  • We enhanced the image ratio to make sure all images fit in the right boxes.
  • We also achieved massive results in page speed optimization.
  • In addition, we built a blog module within the given timeline while keeping all professional constraints in mind, and the client is very pleased.
